Landscapes for Healthy Waters

The quality of the water found in our lakes, rivers, streams and other waterways is a reflection of how we take care of the land that surrounds those waterways.  To help educate and train landowners, gardeners, landscapers, landscape designers, grounds-keepers and others on how they can help protect and restore water quality by being good stewards of that surrounding land, the CWC began a Healthy Landscapes for Healthy Waters program in 2007.

Since that time, CWC has added the technical services of conservationists willing to come directly to your home or site.  Managing runoff, buffer zone planning, rain garden design, native plant information and conservation easement advice are some of the services available.  Contact the CWC office at 716-664-2166 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for more information or to have one of the conservationists visit you.

Past workshops for the Healthy Landscapes for Healthy Waters program have explained how to establish healthy and beautiful landscapes, while at the same time helping to improve the area’s natural watershed storage and filtration functions.  Contact us if you need help with:

  • Lawn care practices and techniques
  • The use and benefits of native plants*
  • The impacts of invasive/exotic plants*
  • Streamside and lakeshore buffer strips
  • Shoreline or streamside management
  • Shoreline and streamside landscape and plantings designs**
  • Erosion control issues and reduction solutions
  • Storm water runoff issues and reduction solutions
  • The impacts and benefits of limiting or eliminating the use of pesticides, fertilizers and phosphorus-based products

Our Healthy Landscapes for Healthy Waters workshops for 2017 will be posted on our Events page.
